Children and Young People

Our ministry to children and young people is an important part of our mission. Approximately 100 young people access a choice of 5 organisations that offer the opportunity to be involved in a variety of different activities and experiences at various times throughout the week:

Junior Church

Sunday - 10.30am in High St/Salem Hall

We have 15 children between 3 and 11 years who regularly attend Junior Church, although our normal attendance can be anywhere between 2 and 10. There are 4 leaders that lead Junior Church, but only 2 leaders take a session. This is so the children aren’t overcrowded by the leaders.

We use the Roots material, available to churches, as a guide, but try to be flexible and creative. We have received a Child Friendly Church Award. Extra activities take place at different times throughout the year such as Good Friday Workshops, New Year Parties, Light Parties and a Christmas Festival Service. These activities are open to all the children and young peoples’ groups within the Church.

Fury

1st, 3rd & 5th Sunday's 7.00pm - 9.00pm in Salem Hall

Fury range from 11 years to 19 years and meet both Sunday mornings and alternate Sunday evenings. In total we have 17 on the registers (10 of which are on both the am and pm registers and the other 7 on either am or pm register). However, in practice we are very lucky to get 10 at any one time in the morning.

The mornings sessions use the Roots material as a stimulus for Bible study, discussion, drama or art and craft work. The evening sessions include a 'Quiet Time' led by the young people and a programme of social activities including sport, games, quizzes, cooking.

Girls' Brigade

Juniors: 6.15m - 7.00pm, Seniors & Brigaders: 7.15pm - 8.30pm Monday's in Salem Hall

Within the 1st Wellingborough Girls’ Brigade Company there are 38 girls ranging from 5 to 18 years, some of whom have been attending for fourteen years.

Four leaders run a full programme following the approved syllabus: the girls aim each year to attain a badge, which is split up into four sections; spiritual, practical, educational and service. On a usual evening the girls carry out many activities such as cooking, craft and games and developing links with GB in Malawi. This allows them to work within a team and feel a sense of belonging.

Boy's Brigade

Anchor Boys: 6.00pm - 7.30pm Wednesday's in Salem Hall

Junior Section: 6.30pm - 8.15pm, Company Section: 6.30pm - 9.00pm, Friday's in Salem Hall

Anchor Boys are the youngest section and with up to 16 boys aged between 5 and 8 years it can be very noisy, but great fun. Activities range from art and craft, games and weather permitting in June and July we go to the park for team games and fun on the play equipment.

The Junior Section is for boys aged 8-11 years old.  The Company Section is for boys aged 11-15 years old.  Junior Section and Company Section meet on the same evening and follow the BB Junior Section and Company Section Programmes which can lead on to the Queen's Badge and Duke of Edinburgh awards.

UR Actors

Thursday's 5.30 - 8pm in Salem Hall

Formed in 2002, we currently have 23 members between 8 and 16 years and 2 young leaders between 16 and 18. Our aim is to enable youngsters to have fun whilst developing the skills of drama and performance. In addition they develop new friendships and grow in self-confidence.

Our programme includes an annual production with rehearsals running from September to February, in which all members are guaranteed a part. From February to July we work on improving skills intermixed with various workshops such as puppet theatre and make-up, sometimes led by specialist guests.
