Comments and Thoughts from UR Actors ...............

January 2010

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. It was nearly a ‘white’ Christmas! U R Actors have been busy since we have been back. Our publicity photos have been taken some of which can be seen on the poster outside the church. Lines are being learnt and the show is starting to take shape. The set is almost complete. Not long to go before show time.

Bugsy Malone is set in 1929 in New York City. It is a gangster movie where all the gangsters are children. Instead of real bullets they use splurge guns that cover the victims in cream. Bugsy Malone captures a flashy world of would-be hoodlums, showgirls, and dreamers along with Tallulah, the sassy girlfriend of the owner of Fat Sam's Grand Slam Speakeasy. The story tells of the rise of Bugsy Malone and the battle for power between Fat Sam and Dandy Dan. Who will win the battle for power? Well you need to come and see the show to find out!

Tickets are now on sale. The performances are:

·         Friday 6th February at 7pm

·         Saturday 7th February at 2.30pm

·         Saturday 7th February at 7pm

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3.50 for children. Tickets are selling out fast so be sure to get yours now.

(BUT ARE NOW SOLD OUT, well done Everyone!)

December 2009

Since the last blog many things have been going on at U R Actors. We have welcomed many new faces, auditions have taken place and we are now working on the show.

Since the auditions in September we have been putting the show together. Slowly but surely the set is starting to be put together, words are being learnt, dances are being choreographed and songs are being learnt. The show is starting to be put together. The show will be in approximately 11 weeks time so we need to get going!

Many of the members who attended ‘The Wiz’ in the summer holidays are attending a reunion in December at Yardley, to catch up with the other actors, band members and leaders. I wonder what the leaders have got in store for them?

Members of the ‘Youth at High Street’ are organising an Australian Christmas party on Saturday 2nd January. This is a family event, with a disco and a bouncy castle. Tickets are £2.50 per person or a family ticket of four is £8. Please come along to support out members.

Details of tickets and times for Bugsy Malone will be in the next blog in January, but please look for posters before hand as this will also have details.

Have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.

September 2009   "We're Back!"

We have only been back for a couple of weeks after the summer holiday, but there is still plenty to talk about.

Some of our members, along with other members of the church went to ‘The Wiz’, a Faith, Hope and Gaffatape production. We went to Yardley Hastings for a week where we had to audition and learn the whole script in a week, ready for our Friday night performance. Many of us didn’t think that it would be possible, but as they say anything is possible! Everyone learnt there lines and songs, as well as dance routines by the Friday night performance. I certainly enjoyed being up on the stage acting and hopefully so did everyone else. There were people that didn’t perform on stage but down in the pits. These were the musicians who also had to learn to play at the right time for the music. Again they had not seen the score and only had a week to learn what to play and how to play it like it was supposed to be played.

Auditions will take place for Bugsy Malone on Thursday 17th September which is earlier than when we normally do them. The following Thursday everyone will know who they are playing so they can look at their script and learn their lines. When everyone knows which part they have got we will begin working on the script and learning lines.

Well done to all those who have got the grades that they wanted and we wish them luck with what they are doing next. Congratulations also go to one of our leaders who gave birth in the holidays and had a baby boy.

May 2009

In last month’s blog I mentioned that U R Actors were having a disco on the 18th March. This was well turned out as usual and everyone had a good time. It was led by our very own disco DJs Luke and Jamie.

The young people’s forum took place on Sunday 19th March, where some of the youth members attended a talk on what it was about. The young people that attended have decided that they would like to go forward onto the forum. To do this there will be an election taking place shortly.

Saturday 16th May the young members who are attending Faith, Hope and Gaffatape in the summer organised a line dance evening. A parent from U R Actors came to teach us some of the moves and it was a very enjoyable evening. There was also a tombola which was well supported.

Thursday 21st May we are voting on which show we are going to perform next year. Details of this and when the auditions will take place will be in the next few months of the Blog.

We are currently working on scripts for fun. The older members are working on Ali Baba and the younger members are working on Jack and the Beanstalk. For more information about what we are doing and for pictures please see the website (www.wellingboroughurc.org.uk) and follow the links to the U R Actors pages.

April 2009

Saturday 21st March seems a long time ago! Many of U R Actors members joined in with the Caring for God’s World High Street’s got Talent evening. It was a good turnout and every one that went on stage did very well especially one of the new members who only joined the Thursday before!

Some of us took part in the Palm Sunday service – Jerusalem Joy with the choir. There was quite a few there so thank you. Many people came up to me at the end of the service and said how great it was that U R Actors were getting involved in the services and it was nice to see so many faces up there joining in. Everyone that joined in got an Easter egg as a thank you which did include me!

U R Actors had a disco on Saturday 18th April, led by our own disco DJs Luke and Jamie. As I am writing this, the disco has not yet taken place so I can not comment on how it went; but I will mention it in the next Blog.

There is a Young people’s meeting on Sunday 19th April. Again I will let you know about how this went in the next Blog.

The line dancing practice has at the minute stopped. This is because we were working on the songs for Jerusalem Joy. Since then we have had a two week break for the Easter holidays, but hopefully when we return practices will commence again. The line dancing session will take place from 6.30pm – 9pm on Saturday 16th May in Salem Hall and everyone is welcome to attend. It is £3 for adults and £1 for children. The money raised from this will support members who are attending ‘The Wiz.’

March 2009

So much has happened since the last blog.

First of all we had a Valentines Disco. The disco had a good turnout and we had our wonderful DJs. This was before last month’s blog that was due to go in the Record, but unfortunately I put an advert in for it instead of telling you about it! It was a very good night. Hopefully we are going to do another one soon.

We had the music festival 10th March, which was the Tuesday before the show. Well done to all who took part including: Senior Chorus, junior chorus, intermediate chorus, Rosie, Laura, Melissa, Abbey Jackson, Abbie Peters, Rachael, Daniel, Chezney, Alice, Chantelle and Simon.

The show has been and gone now. As some of you that came to the show are aware that I was in actual fact part of the cast this year, even though I wasn’t supposed to be. That was because I was standing in for someone and had two weeks to learn the lines. It was hard work! Like last year’s show, each performance improved and the confidence on stage also grew. Many thanks have got to go to all of the U R Actors leaders, Dave and Alex for lighting and sound and parents for making this show a possibility. It was Luke’s first show in directing and I thought he did very well and it was a great show. For pictures of our show please go to the church website (www.wellingboroughurc.org.uk) and follow the links to the U R Actors section.

Normally after the shows U R Actors go to different places to sing the songs from our show. This year we are waiting a while before we do this so we can prepare new things for them to enjoy and we are waiting until Olive gets home after her operation.

Saturday 21st March is High Streets Got Talent which is being prepared by the Caring for God’s World Group. Some of our members are taking part in this event which should be an enjoyable evening with a pea and pie supper.

February 2009

We have been very busy at U R Actors since the last Record. At the time of writing we are having or publicity photos and programme photos taken. For pictures of or rehearsals and some videos of our rehearsal and photo shoot please visit the U R Actors website via the church website and follow the links. (www.wellingboroughurc.org.uk)

Costumes are getting there as well as make up. Hopefully some of the leaders will be having a make-up session where we will learn how to do the make-up for the show.

Everybody has been working very hard both Thursdays and Sundays to make this show the best yet. We have not got many rehearsals left before the show and the strain is starting to show on some of the leaders and some members of the cast.

On Saturday 14th February – Valentines Day – U R Actors is holding a Valentines disco. As with the Christmas disco there will be our very own U R Actors DJs with their dance mix! It should be a good night and I’m rather quite exited.

This month some members will be taking part in the Wellingborough Music Festival on Tuesday 10th March. After last year we would are going in with our heads held high. I will let you know who took part and how we got on in next months record.

Happily Ever After is all about a fairytale convention which they have every year. It is lead by bossy Snow White and all the main characters attend. This year they decide to make their fairytales more interesting by changing their characters round for example the beast may become bossy Snow White. Will this change their fairytales for good or will they stay as they are. Come and see the show to find out what happens.

The dates of the show are Friday 13th March at 7pm and Saturday 14th March at 2.30pm and 7pm. As I am writing this I am unfortunately unaware if the tickets are on sale but it will be in the notice sheet when the tickets do go on sale. Please come and support U R Actors in their main show.

January 2009

Happy New Year.

In last month’s ‘blog’ I mentioned that we were preparing for the Christmas service – Away in a Manger. This had a good turnout and it was good to see so many people there. Well done to all who took part as we hadn’t had many rehearsals.

As a reward for all the hard work before Christmas there was a disco with U R Actors DJs! Again there were lots of people there and it was very successful. As it was so successful U R Actors are preparing a ‘Valentines Disco’ on the 14th February.

U R Actors is now back after the two week break and we are getting into the full swing of things. We have now got rehearsals every Thursday and most Sundays with the exception of one or two so it is a busy time. We have not got long until the performances of ‘Happily Ever After’ and everyone is working really hard.

Unfortunately we got the dates muddled for the performances in the last record. The correct dates for the show are Friday 13th March at 7pm and Saturday 14th March at 2.30pm and 7pm. Details of tickets will be available soon so watch this space!
